【National Day Golden Week】Macao registers 1.14 million visitor arrivals Single-day visitor arrivals reach all-time high for National Day holidays

MACAU, October 8 - The seven-day National Day holiday has come to an end in the Chinese mainland this year. Preliminary figures show that Macao registered 1.143 million visitor arrivals from 1 to 7 October 2026. Average daily visitor arrivals topped 163,000, which increased by 15.5% compared with the National Day holiday of 2025. Single-day visitor arrivals peaked at 210,000 on 4 October. Both the volumes of average daily and single-day visitor arrivals in Macao reached the highest records for National Day holidays ever since there were official statistics. On the other hand, the average hotel occupancy rate topped 91.3% over this National Day holiday.

In celebration of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China this year, various governmental entities, tourism businesses and community organizations organized different types of celebration activities, in line with multichannel promotions and special offers among other initiatives. Visitors were attracted to Macao for the experience of diverse “tourism +”. Different entities concerned made preparations in advance while patrols and supervisory work were conducted for the festive period to safeguard visitors’ rights, to keep reinforcing Macao’s profile as an ideal leisure destination.

Average daily visitor arrivals reach 163,000

According to preliminary figures, throughout the National Day holiday (1 – 7 October 2026), Macao registered 1.143 million visitor arrivals in total. Average daily visitor arrivals reached 163,000 in Macao, a rise of 15.5% compared with the National Day holiday in 2025.

Among overall visitor arrivals, there were 972,000 Chinese mainland visitors, 119,000 Hong Kong visitors, 12,000 visitors from Taiwan Region and 39,000 international visitors. The average daily volume of Chinese mainland visitors was 139,000, which rose year-on-year by 19.6% compared with the daily average (116,000) of the National Day holiday in 2025.

Average hotel occupancy rate tops 91.3%

Industry figures revealed that hotel establishments in Macao saw an average occupancy rate of 91.3% during the National Day holiday, a rise of 3.1 percentage points compared with that of the corresponding period in 2025. The average hotel occupancy rate peaked at 97.0% on 2 October.

The average room rate of Macao’s hotel establishments (including hotels, apartment hotels and economical accommodation establishments) was around 1,677.3 patacas during the National Day holiday, a year-over-year decrease of 1.7% from last National Day holiday.

Wonderful events boost visitor flows and spending in Macao

In accord with the National Day Golden Week, Macao rolled out many events and activities to enrich visitors’ experiences and spark interest in consumption. The events organized and supported by MGTO include the 34th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest and the Fireworks Carnival on the waterfront next to Macao Science Center. In addition, a diversity of community tourism activities subsidized by MGTO were held in different districts to encourage residents and visitors to visit and enliven local communities with festive air.

Several governmental entities joined hands with community organizations and chambers of commerce to set up National Day Holiday Pedestrian Zones in Taipa Village and along Rua de Nossa Senhora do Amparo. In line with the optimizing measures for visitor flow and traffic management in both areas, MGTO produced a promotional video for release on different channels. Staffers were stationed as well to provide travel information at the tourist information stations on site. Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK also showed up for an encounter with the public.

Macao Grand Prix Museum celebrates National Day

The Macao Grand Prix Museum welcomed 6,800 visitors in total over the seven-day holiday. On 1 October, the Museum was open for free admission and attracted 2,142 museumgoers. Originally closed as on Tuesdays, the Museum was also open on 6 October as a special arrangement.

Tourism and “Leisure” Buses with local IP installations

Launched by the SAR Government in collaboration with the integrated resort enterprises, the “Tourism and ‘Leisure’ Buses” connected eateries, attractions and shops in various neighborhoods. Besides, backdrop installations themed around local cultural and creative IPs including Mak Mak, Molo, Nanara and PP Bear, Yunana & Meow as well as Sio San were set up in the vicinity of bus stations in the communities to bring an influx of visitors for spending to spur economic growth in the communities. MGTO arranged for staffers to provide route information at the bus stations, besides promoting the initiative in detail among visitors on online and offline channels.

Various measures ensure smooth operations

MGTO maintained communication with the Chinese mainland tourism department concerned for release of Macao travel information on the National Day Golden Week to Mainland residents and industry operators. The Office also partnered with Public Security Police Force to convene meetings with the local travel trade and hotels to cope with the peaks of visitor flows, while conducting rigorous patrols with the interdepartmental workforce before and during the National Day holiday for collaborative regulation of tourism operations.

Combat irregularities and safeguard destination image

Between 1 and 7 October, MGTO conducted 187 inspections at different ports of entry, tourist attractions, shopping spots, hotels and so forth. The Office also carried out interdepartmental joint inspections with Macao Customs Service and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, among other public entities. No irregularity was discovered. In addition, MGTO joined hands with the police force to combat illegal accommodation. During the aforementioned period, the Office discovered four apartments allegedly operated as illegal accommodation.

MGTO’s inspectors stood by round the clock while the tourism hotline (853) 2833 3000 maintained its 24-hour operator service as usual. Between 1 and 7 October, MGTO received 27 enquiries and complaints from visitors mainly about hotel reservations, traffic and tourism service quality, as well as 22 complaints about apartments allegedly operated as illegal accommodation. The Office has promptly followed up with or referred the cases to the departments concerned for handling in accord with the law.
